A new musical based on the critically acclaimed book Bringing It All Back Home by Robbie Woliver, a New York Times bestselling author. The play follows a group of young artists/musicians in and out of the legendary music venue Gerde's Folk City. It tells their stories while showcasing the history of the Greenwich Village music scene, the popular folk, blues, pop and rock artists and classic songs that came out of that three-decade scene from 1961 to 1986. The play features the most rousing theatrical folk-pop-rock soundtrack yet. Folk City, which Rolling Stone called one of the "Top Three Music Venues of All Time," launched the careers of hundreds of world-renowned musical stars including the likes of Bob Dylan.
Kim Vogels plays the roll of JAZZ, the acerbic bartender, beat poet who struggles with drugs, the Vietnam war and free love. The Oregonian called her a "standout" in her "heartbreaking turn as Jazz."
From Feb 15 - March 4th you can see Folk City: The Musical through Stumptown Stages at The Brunish Theatre at the Portland'5 Center of the Arts.
